Stark D is a DJ, electronic music producer and audio engineer based in Peterborough, UK. He runs Vintage Music Label and works with artists across electronic music. His new single No Sins or Lust with Kilany M came out last week.

What does your working week actually look like right now?

Apart from being a musician and audio engineer, I work as personal trainer and technical support team leader for a production line automated by robots. Basically, I am a pro-active person who loves music.

How do you find the people you work with?

Online, through the demos I receive for my record label.

What's one thing about the music business you had to learn the hard way — and what do you do now when you hit that wall?

The main thing is there is no rainbow at the end of the tunnel. The music industry isn’t for amateurs, it is a business that most of the artists keep treating like a close friend that you invite for a BBQ. Either you protect yourself and your intellectual property, or you will work for free to make other people rich. It is a professional job; you show up, you do what is expected from your expertise, say good bye and leave. Integrity means respect.

What does the work look like when it's going well?

It is going well if I feel well and my mind feels well. This is the kind of work that can’t be forced and has to flow well. To be able to make people happy, we must be happy with ourselves.

What are you trying to figure out right now?

What will the music scene look like with the lack of actual talented musicians in the scene. People are relying too much on AI for everything. From plugins, to arrangements to digital singers. So I am watching the music industry crumble over a robot who copies everyone.

I’ll keep exploring the music landscape and trying to express my music in an authentic manner. No Sins or Lust with Kilany M is out now on all major platforms and the response has been good. More ideas cooking in the studio. If gigs come up, they'll be well planned.
